Yamaha India Chairman talks about the future of the RX100

Yamaha India chairman Eishin Chihana has confirmed that the company is working on a modern-day version of the iconic RX100. However, he has also said that the bike will not be launched before 2026.

Chihana said that Yamaha is aware of the RX100’s iconic status in India and that the company wants to do justice to the name. However, he said that the bike will have to be a performance-oriented machine with a larger engine than the original 100cc two-stroke.

“We have no intention to ruin the RX100,” Chihana said. “So until we are sure that we can produce a high performance, lightweight bike with the correct performance, we will not launch it. With the current line-up, 155cc is not enough.”

Chihana said that Yamaha is currently evaluating several options for the RX100’s engine. He said that the company is considering a 200cc or 250cc four-stroke engine.

“We want to make sure that the new RX100 is a bike that people will love,” Chihana said. “We are not going to rush into anything.”

In the meantime, Yamaha fans will have to wait until 2026 to see the new RX100. However, Chihana’s comments suggest that the wait will be worth it.
