Tata Motors has officially announced the launch of its next electric car, the Tiago, on Global EV Day. Tata’s new Tiago Electric is going to be launched in India on 28 September. The Tiago could be the cheapest electric car in India when launched.
The Tiago is Tata’s entry-level ICE hatchback and could also be Tata’s entry-level electric car. The Tata Tiago EV is set to be India’s first electric hatchback car. The Tata Tiago is going to stay below the Tigor EV in the company’s portfolio.

Tata Motors has not yet given any information about the specifications and features of the Tiago Electric. But the Tiago Electric may share the underpinnings and mechanicals with the Tigor EV.
Tata Motors launched the Tigor EV in the PV segment in 2021. Tata Motors already sells the Tigor EV and Nexon EV in the Indian market. The Tigor EV is a compact sedan and the Nexon EV is a compact SUV and the Tiago EV is expected to be a hatchback.
The Tiago Electric could be powered by Tata’s Ziptron technology, which is used in the Tigor EV and Nexon EV. Ziptron technology is more advanced than Xpress-T technology. Xpress-T technology is used in the commercial segment.
