Maruti Suzuki may introduce its first electric (Maruti EV) car at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. Its codename is Maruti YY8. The Maruti YY8 will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant.
Apart from India, it will be introduced in other countries as well and will be developed in collaboration with Toyota. Toyota could launch a rebadged version of the SUV that will take on the Tata Nexon EV, which is currently the best-selling electric car in India.
Powertrain
The Maruti YY8 electric SUV could be available in two battery pack options: a 48-kWh pack that should offer a range of 400 km on a full charge, and a 59-kWh pack that could offer a range of 500 km. The power output from these batteries is expected to be 138 hp to 170 hp. It will be available in both two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.

Price
The wheelbase of the Maruti YY8 electric SUV will be around 2,700 mm, which should result in a spacious interior and ample space to store the battery pack. It is expected to be over 4.2 meters long, making it similar in length to a crate. The Maruti YY8 is likely to be priced between Rs 13 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
Tata Motors is currently India’s number one electric car company. The company has acquired almost 84% stake in less than four years. At the Auto Expo 2023, we expect to see the production version of the 5-door Jimny from Maruti.
