Do electric vehicles really need a PUC certificate?

The demand for electric vehicles is increasing in India as well as across the world due to rising fuel rates and rising pollution. Lakhs of electric vehicles have been sold in India in the last 2-3 years. Some people have bought electric vehicles to save the environment and some people have to save fuel costs. But now they are getting to see a different problem somewhere.

PUC certificate is mandatory for petrol and diesel vehicles after one year. Because petrol and diesel vehicles burn fuel, due to which smoke comes out from the silencer of the vehicle. There is some kind of harmful air in this smoke. PUC is a test conducted by the government, which detects these harmful fumes. The government also gets the earnings from this test. But the owners of electric vehicles are quite confused about whether they want PUC or not. Because the photo of the traffic police challan is becoming quite viral.

Electric vehicles do not require a PUC as they do not emit smoke. For some time now even the owners of electric vehicles do not have a PUC certificate, hence incidents of challan deducting have come to the fore. Recently a similar incident happened in Kerala. The traffic police challan an electric scooter of Ather, as it did not have a PUC certificate. These acknowledgments and scooters are now becoming very viral on the internet. According to the acknowledgment of the challan and the vehicle number, this acknowledgment is not a PUC certificate, hence appears to have been given.

According to the new rules of the central government, if the owner of a vehicle does not have a PUV, then he will have to pay a fine of Rs 1000. But this fee can be changed by the states according to their own. The challan that went viral also mentions a fine of Rs 250 and section 213(5)(e) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Do Electric Vehicles Really Have PUC? Electric vehicles have a motor and do not burn fuel, which does not emit smoke from them. There is no silencer in the vehicle as there is no smoke coming out of them. How to check PUC if the vehicle does not have a silencer? Because PUC is checked with a silencer. Electric vehicles do not have silencers, so they do not require a PUC certificate.

These are all fake photos and even before this the photo of all such fake challans had gone viral, the bike rider has been challan for not wearing a seat belt for not wearing a helmet in the car. Stay away from such fake news and keep visiting VehicleMech to get the right news.
